Ceremony to be held for Oakland Hall of Fame athletes

OAKLAND, Calif.

Sprinter Jim Hines is going in. Hines was the first man to break 10 seconds in the 100 meter race. He did it at the Olympics in Mexico City where he won two gold medals.

Hines, who graduated from McClymonds High School, noted he's not going into the hall alone. "Bill Russell, Frank Robinson, Curt Flood, Rickey Henderson, Joe Morgan, excuse me, myself, Jim Hines. Everybody that's being inducted are legends in their own sport," he said.

The Hall of Fame is sponsored by the Oakland Athletic League. Saturday's induction ceremony is a fundraiser for Oakland public high school sports programs.
