Eastbound lanes of Highway 84 reopen after fatal crash in Sunol

Eastbound lanes on state Highway 84 in Sunol have reopened after a two-car crash left one person dead and shut down both directions of traffic on the roadway.

Eastbound Highway 84 at the intersection of Palomares and Niles Canyon roads reopened to traffic around 10:55 a.m., nearly two hours after the collision was reported, according to the CHP.

The two-vehicle head-on collision involving an SUV and a pickup truck was reported on Highway 84 near Pleasanton Sunol Road around 9:15 a.m., CHP Officer Ron Simmons said.

The CHP issued a Sig-Alert at 9:35 a.m. and shut down both eastbound and westbound sides of the roadway in the area.

The extent of injuries suffered by other people involved in the crash was not immediately known.
