Thousands of PG&E customers in Cupertino were hit by a power outage that began late Sunday night, a utility spokesman said.

The outage, which affected 2,276 customers, was reported just before midnight, spokesman Jason King said.

Mid-morning today, only 33 customers remained without power. Those customers are expected to have power restored sometime this afternoon, King said.

The outage area included customers in an area roughly bordered by Interstate Highway 280, Stevens Creek Boulevard, Wolfe Road, and Pruneridge and Tantau avenues.

The cause of the outage is under investigation, he said.
