All-electronic tolling begins on Golden Gate Bridge

SAN FRANCISCO

At midnight, a vintage Packard was the last vehicle to cross and pay cash. The same car also crossed the bridge on the day it opened 76 years ago.

There are now four ways to pay tolls: using a FasTrak transponder, paying by plate, which means you can have an account by registering your license plate; making a one-time payment online; or just waiting for an invoice in the mail.

Former toll-takers say they'll never forget the interesting things they saw over the years. "I've seen naked people come through here, you try not to look down," said former toll-taker Cheryl Butler-Adams.

In addition to the toll changes, the speed limit has been raised to 25 miles per hour going through the toll gates.
