Woman accused of murdering father to be arraigned

FREMONT, Calif.

Megan Desiree O'Connell, 29, of Hayward, was arrested Thursday after officers responded to a disturbance at the father's home in the 37800 block of Argyle Road at about 7:15 p.m.

They found him lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood, Fremont police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques said. The father, whose name hasn't yet been released, was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.

The initial indication is that the father died of blunt force trauma to his head, Bosques said.

Officers found O'Connell in a bathroom inside the home and took her into custody after a short but violent struggle, Bosques said.

She said O'Connell fought "viciously" by swinging her arms and legs, even after she had been restrained, so eventually officers put her in a wrap and a protective hood to stop her from spitting at them.

No officers were injured, Bosques said.

Police said their preliminary investigation indicates that O'Connell arrived at the home in violation of a restraining order and got into a violent argument with her father, prompting her mother to call police.

O'Connell is being held without bail at the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin and is scheduled to be arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court in Fremont at 2 p.m., Bosques said.

She said the Alameda County District Attorney's Office is expected to formally charge O'Connell before then.
