Teenager dies playing 'chicken' on train tracks in San Lorenzo

ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif.

Deputies aren't releasing the age of the victim until they get official word from the coroner, but we do know he was with a 15-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Department says it's unclear how long the three teenagers were playing around before one of them was struck. We were told the boy was hit by a northbound Amtrak train and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies say the two fifteen-year olds were clearly shaken by what happened. Their families and pastors came to the scene as soon as they got word.

"The kids from San Lorenzo High and all over the community walk in this neighborhood on a daily basis coming to and from practices and other community events. It's very important that kids realize how dangerous the tracks are, that parents reiterate that to their children, that they need to stay off the tracks and don't walk on the tracks for any reason, especially not to play games and not to take a shortcut home," said Alameda County Sheriff's Dep. April Luckett.

The boy was hit by train No. 544 traveling from San Jose to Sacramento. There were 133 passengers and five crew members on board, but none of them were hurt.
