Bullets damage PG&E substation in San Jose

SAN JOSE

Officials say vandals fired gunshots into the PG&E substation on Metcalf Road in San Jose overnight damaging transformers and causing an oil leak.

Crews are cleaning up the mess while investigators look into the vandalism. At the same time, fiber optic lines were cut in the area prompting some AT&T and Verizon cell service, landlines and even some 911 systems to go down. Investigators are looking into a possible connection, but they can't get into to investigate or repair lines until the oil is cleaned up.

People in the area between South San Jose and Gilroy are affected.

There is no word yet when it will be restored.
