PG&E was alerted at 8:15 a.m. that a third-party contractor doing excavation work in a parking lot on the north side of the mall on Forest Avenue had struck a gas line, utility spokesman Jason King said.
The line affected is a one-and-a-quarter-inch service line that was properly labeled, according to King.
At 9:31 a.m., responding PG&E crews were able to stop the flow of gas.
At least two mall customers are experiencing service impacts, and part of the food court is affected, King said.
Crews are performing safety checks, and gas service is expected to be restored around midday, King said.
Fire crews arrived at the mall, located at 2855 Stevens Creek Blvd., at 8:08 a.m., a San Jose fire dispatcher said.
The fire department ordered a voluntary evacuation of employees at certain mall facilities, King said. The mall opens at 10 a.m. on Mondays.
No injuries were reported, King said.
