Thousands attend Bay Area May Day protests

The biggest crowd was in San Jose where a march stretched for blocks and blocks. The crowd consists of workers, labor groups, civil rights organizations, and religious groups -- all focused on raising their voices that lawmakers in Washington need to agree on immigrant rights reform and providing a path for citizenship.

Immigration rights were also the focus of a May Day rally in San Francisco. A demonstration started at Mission and 24th streets in the Mission District and ended up at Civic Center Plaza.

In Oakland, hundreds of immigrant workers, children and community members gathered at Fruitvale Plaza. The demonstration was designed to raise awareness of what they describe as the need to expand rights for all immigrants.
