The Boston bombing is prompting tighter security at the Kentucky Derby.

The estimated 160,000 people going through the gates should expect thorough bag inspections and magnetic wand searches. They won't be allowed to carry in camcorders, cans, coolers of any size, or purses larger than 12 inches.

Backpacks have been banned since 9-11.

Authorities are also counting on the fans to help them out. "What we've learned is our folks have got to be vigilant. We've got to be vigilant. People have to be the eyes and ears of this community," Major Kelly Jones Louisville Metro Police Department.

Around 1,200 federal, state, and local officers will be on-site, about 100 more than originally planned.
