A Concord woman has been arrested in connection with a brush fire in Martinez that started early Sunday evening.

The fire first started around 5 p.m. near Alhambra Avenue and Lindsey Drive. It quickly spread to about 15 acres and threatened buildings and homes nearby. Firefighters were able to get it under control before any damage was done.

A witness reported seeing someone start the fire using a lighter.

When Martinez police arrived, they confronted 48-year-old Julie Tenpenny. Officers say she was uncooperative and resisted when they tried to investigate the situation.

She was arrested for arson and being under the influence of a controlled substance. She was transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

An officer was injured in the leg during the arrest. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

All roads previously closed due to the fire reopened by 7:50 p.m.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident is encouraged to telephone the Martinez Police Department at (925) 372-3440.
