Beating, abuse leaves San Francisco puppy blind

SAN FRANCISCO

The pug-Chihuahua mix is being treated at San Francisco Animal Care and Control. When the dog was brought in a week ago, she was suffering from major brain trauma and could not see. She may also have been sexually abused.

"She was completely out; she was really at death's door, it was touch and go for quite a while," San Francisco Animal Care and Control Director Rebecca Katz said. "We weren't sure whether she would walk again."

The puppy is making progress. She has begun to stand on her own.

The pug-mix will eventually be put up for adoption.

Authorities say the person responsible will face criminal charges.
