CC Sabathia dedicates basketball court in Vallejo

VALLEJO, Calif.

Sabathia, his wife Amber and their charitable organization PitCCh In Foundation, dedicated and reopened a renovated basketball court located at 1601 Fairgrounds Drive, event spokeswoman Kathy Jacobson said.

The court was renamed to Demetrius C. Davis Basketball Court at North Vallejo Park, according to Jacobson.

Davis was a graduate of Vallejo High School and the University of Nevada at Reno. He was drafted into the NFL by the Oakland Raiders, but ultimately played for the World League's Barcelona Dragons, Jacobson said. He died last December.

Following the dedication of the court, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament was held to help raise funds to create a college scholarship fund for the Davis family children. Davis had four children.

Sabathia is in the Bay Area with his Yankee teammates for a three-game series against the Oakland A's. He is the scheduled starting pitcher for Tuesday night's series opener at O.co Coliseum.
