A two-alarm fire displaced nine people and caused about $500,000 in damage to two buildings in San Francisco's Bayview District early Tuesday morning, a fire department spokeswoman said.

The blaze was reported around 2:30 a.m. in a detached garage at 1530 Hudson Ave., fire spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said.

The flames spread to an adjacent building at 1526 Hudson Ave. before being extinguished at about 4:15 a.m., Talmadge said.

Seven adults and two children were displaced, she said.

A firefighter suffered a minor ankle injury while battling the blaze and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The fire caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to the building at 1530 Hudson Ave. At the adjacent property, there was about $175,000 in damage to the structure and $75,000 in contents was destroyed, Talmadge said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, she said.
