Power has been restored to most of the 5,800 customers affected by a power outage in Berkeley Tuesday morning, a PG&E spokeswoman said.

The outage started at 8:49 a.m. and affected homes on streets including La Loma, Euclid and Glendale avenues and Virginia Street, spokesman Joe Molica said.

As of 9:40 a.m., the number of customers without power had been reduced to about 3,500, and by 11:30 a.m., that number had dropped to 650, PG&E spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said.

Power should be fully restored to those customers by mid-afternoon, she said.

The cause of the outage has yet to be determined.
