Protesters support inmates on extended hunger strike

Hundreds of people are rallying outside of Corcoran State Prison in the Central Valley.

The prisoners and their supporters are protesting conditions for gang members held in solitary confinement at Pelican Bay State Prison near Eureka.

Corrections officials say, initially, more than 12,000 prisoners in 24 facilities had skipped nine consecutive meals-- making this an extended hunger strike.

They say that number is now down to 7,600.
