SF Supervisors to hold meeting over bike theft problem

San Francisco supervisors are considering measures to cut down on rising bike thefts.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Supervisor Eric Mar has called a special hearing at City Hall Thursday night to address the problem.

Bike-stealing is up 70-percent since 2006, with 817 attempted or reported thefts in 2012. However, police think the actual number is probably five times higher.

San Francisco is considering a local voluntary bike registry or a special bike theft police unit.
