Hayward store security shot, pistol-whipped by suspected thief

HAYWARD, Calif.

It happened Sunday afternoon at the Home Depot on Hesperian Boulevard when a man tried to walk out without paying for items.

Police say the loss prevention officers confronted the man, who then shot one officer in the shoulder and pistol-whipped the other.

Across the street police found a bloody shirt, a baseball cap, and what looked to be human hair. They believe the suspect has changed his looks.

Both security officers sustained non-life threatening injuries and will recover.
