Arrest made in Santa Rosa road rage hit-and-run involving cyclist

SANTA ROSA, Calif.

Police responded to a report of a hit-and-run collision near the intersection of Jennings and Eardley avenues at about 6:25 p.m. Arriving officers found a bicyclist suffering from several broken bones and internal injuries.

The car that had hit the bicyclist was not at the scene when police arrived, but witnesses described the vehicle as a white Volvo S70 sedan.

Police found the Volvo parked on Cedarwood Drive and spotted 22-year-old Matthew Dewayne Hamilton, of Santa Rosa, walking in the area. He was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail.

Investigators believe the collision occurred during a road rage incident between Hamilton and the cyclist in which the cyclist yelled at Hamilton for almost hitting him, police said.

According to police, Hamilton allegedly backed up his vehicle to continue the argument, then struck the cyclist.
