Law enforcement officials are warning drivers to be on the lookout for a crime taking place all over the country and can happen in a matter of seconds.

Criminals are stealing purses, cellphones and wallets out of cars at gas stations while the drivers are filling the tank.

Police call the thieves "sliders" for the way they cagily slide along the side of the car, lying in wait for just the right moment to strike and make off with driver's valuables.

The best advice for drivers is to lock doors and be aware of surroundings.
