Marin City man suspected of matricide charged with murder

MARIN CITY, Calif.

Carlos Aldana, 22, will appear in court Friday to face charges of murder, cruelty to an animal and assault on a peace officer, District Attorney Ed Berberian announced. Aldana, who is being held without bail, will be arraigned before Marin Superior Court Judge James Chou.

Aldana allegedly stabbed his mother, Rosa Aldana, 44, in her Cole Drive apartment on Aug. 23 before hopping on a San Francisco-bound Golden Gate Transit bus, his mother's blood spattered on his body, Marin County sheriff's Lt. Jamie Scardina said.

The California Highway Patrol was alerted to a suspicious passenger on the bus, and U.S. Park Police were able to locate the bus at Fillmore and Chestnut streets in San Francisco.

When Aldana exited the bus, he allegedly threatened responding officers with a knife. Police shot Aldana several times, according to Scardina. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was treated for his wounds.

Aldana has been released from the hospital and transferred to the Marin County Jail, Berberian said.
