Substitute teacher arrested for child pornography

SAN JOSE, Calif.

Westfall was a substitute teacher at Edenvale Elementary for seven years. This week police searched his home and found thousands of images of child porn.

"I know Brian, to me so innocent," said Verna Joseph, a neighbor.

The news is stunning to Joseph. Her neighbor, 39-year-old Westfall arrested for possessing at least 2,000 images of child porn, according to police.

Joseph: "I cannot see this in him."
Barnard: So this is a shock to you?"
Joseph: "Big time. Big time. I'm holding myself up. Big time. No, I can't believe it."

The San Jose Police Department Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force served a search warrant at Westfall's home where they found the troubling images.

Westfall has been a substitute teacher in the Oak Grove School District since 2006, most of his teaching jobs have been at Edenvale Elementary. This week police interviewed some students who had contact with Westfall.

The superintendent tells ABC7 News, "There is no evidence to suggest any students within the Oak Grove School District were involved with or exposed to the alleged criminal actions of this individual."

Arturo Martinez' nephew goes to Edenvale. He said, "It's not safe for the children who come here to the school."

Between 1994 and 2004, police say Westfall worked for a YMCA sponsored afterschool program at Simonds Elementary School in San Jose. While the investigation continues, police urge anyone with information to call them.
