Armed suspect killed in Union City police shooting

UNION CITY, Calif.

The incident began in a home on Bristlecone Drive and Kenita Way on Saturday at about 2:30 p.m.

Police responded to several 911 calls from neighbors who said the suspect was shooting off several weapons.

"Our officers arrived within minutes," Union City Police Commander Bob Horner said. "A minute or two on the scene, and were confronted with an armed suspect. During that confrontation officers fired their weapons at the suspect. They clearly felt their lives were in danger and that of members of the community."

Authorities say no one else was injured during the incident.

Officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave, as per normal procedure, while the shooting is investigated by the police department and by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.
