Fremont police warn of IRS phone scam

FREMONT, Calif.

Since this weekend, someone from a Washington D.C. telephone number or someone who is spoofing a Washington D.C. number, has been calling potential victims while posing as an IRS agent.

The caller tells people they owe the IRS $9,000 and if they don't pay up, their visas or passports could be revoked. The caller pressures people to immediately wire the money or risk arrest.

If you receive such a call, know it is a fake and call the police department. Whatever you do, do not send any money.
