A home was destroyed and another was damaged in a two-alarm fire Saturday evening in Mountain View, fire officials said Sunday.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at a single-family home in the 1800 block of Orangetree Lane at about 7:45 p.m., Mountain View fire spokeswoman Jaime Garrett said.

When crews arrived, they found a home engulfed in flames, and the fire spread to a second home, Garrett said.

A nearby gas meter caught fire as well, and PG&E crews had to come out to assist fire to safely shut off the meter, she said.

The fire was under control around 9 p.m.

Four people in the home that initially caught on fire self evacuated before crews arrived at the scene. The second home affected in the fire had a dog in it. Garrett said the dog escaped safely when crews went inside.

No injuries were reported.

The home where the fire originated was "pretty much completely destroyed," Garrett said. The second home was partially damaged.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
