ABC7 News asked Brigadier General Clarence K. K. Chinn, with the 101st airborne division in Afghanistan, for his thoughts on this somber anniversary.
"We will always honor the fallen heroes of 911 as well as those who've made the ultimate sacrifices these last 12 years defending freedom here in Afghanistan. While an entire generation of American children have grown up the last 12 years knowing nothing but a country of war, the children of Afghanistan have experienced progress and improved education," he said.
Chinn said the future is bright for the people of Afghanistan. They are ready to make their voices heard in the 2014 elections in Afghanistan.
He says it's because of the effort and sacrifice by soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines.
