Pittsburg could adopt plastic bag ban

PITTSBURG, Calif.

Monday night, the city council gave tentative approval to an ordinance which bans grocery stores and other retailers from giving customers single-use plastic bags.

The ban would not apply to restaurants, plastic garment bags or protective bags used for meat and produce.

Customers would pay a fee for paper bags.

If the council formalizes the vote in late October, the ban would take effect January 15.
