Attempted child abduction reported near Lafayette library

LAFAYETTE, Calif.

Around 11:30 a.m., a man on Golden Gate Way near the Lafayette Library and Learning Center tried to grab the child, according to police.

The child's parent took the child to safety and reported the incident to police and the man fled the area.

The suspect is described as a "disheveled" white male who is roughly 60 years old with gray hair, a pockmarked face and possible mental health issues, according to police.

Police are asking citizens to report any similar suspicious activity by calling 911. Tips may also be sent to 94549tip@gmail.com.

Citizens are advised to call police directly rather than trying to make contact with the suspicious person.
