A Colorado teenager who failed to turn in her science project received a second chance because her dog really did eat her homework.

Payton says Reggie, her yellow Labrador, chowed down on her model of Mount Haleakala, the volcano on Maui.

The family rushed him to the vet where 50 straight pins used on the project showed up on Reggie's abdominal x-ray.

"This is the stomach here," Dr. Brian VanVechten said. "There all regular straight pins. We went in surgically at that time we pulled out the one large and four small straight pins."

Reggie has fully recovered.

Payton ended up finishing the project using glue instead of pins.

By the way, Reggie's pain was Payton's gain. She received an "A" on her project.
