Five displaced in two-alarm apartment fire in Alameda

ALAMEDA, Calif.

The fire on the 2000 block of San Jose Avenue was reported just after 4 p.m., fire department spokesman Juan Medrano said.

Callers reported an electrical fire in the two-story building, and other callers reported seeing smoke billowing from it.

Firefighters arriving on the scene quickly called for assistance, upgrading the fire to two alarms.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but two units were damaged enough to displace five people, Medrano said. The American Red Cross was called in to assist them.

The fire's cause remains under investigation. There were no injuries reported.
