The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. near the Happy Time liquor store at the intersection of Eighth and Campbell streets, a store employee said.
Oakland police spokeswoman Officer Johnna Watson said it was a fatal shooting but did not immediately have more details about the case.
Police advised the liquor store, located at 1647 Eighth St., to close for at least the next few hours as authorities investigate the shooting, the employee said.
The intersection is blocked off by police tape, he said.
