There was a big setback Friday in the daring effort to rescue an expeditionary ship stuck in the ice in Antarctica.

Seventy-four people stuck on the crippled ship thought they were about to be saved by another vessel dispatched from China when they spotted the rescue ship, the "Snow Dragon."

But late Friday, the Snow Dragon it had to turn around over fears that it would become stuck in the ice too.

Rescuers will wait for two other icebreaker ships to arrive before making another attempt which could take another 3 to 4 days.

Those stuck onboard are said to be safe with plenty of provisions.
