Baby born four months early finally heads home

Baby Jayden wasn't supposed to arrive until Christmas Day. Instead he arrived on Aug. 27, weighing just 1 lb. 2 oz.

Doctors at a Central Coast hospital asked his mom, Blanca Orozco, whether she wanted to make the gut-wrenching decision to take him off life support because they weren't sure he would survive.

Orozco refused, never giving up hope.

"When he was born I was told he only had a 33 percent chance of survival," she said. "And I was asked a couple of times if I wanted to let him go because he was so critical, but I refused."

After being transferred to Lucille Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, baby Jayden thrived, gaining several pounds. And on Saturday, doctors finally sent him home.

Blanca sent photos of the joyous homecoming to us Saturday afternoon.
