Salinas High School teacher hit, kicked during campus robbery

SALINAS, Calif.

At 9:40 p.m. Wednesday, Salinas police were called to the campus at 726. S. Main St. where the teacher and student had been robbed while closing up the school's observatory, police said.

They told police that three males had approached them, demanded the student's cellphone and grabbed a laptop computer from the teacher's hands, police said.

When the teacher fought back, the suspects hit and kicked him before running away with the phone and laptop, police said. They were last seen heading north on Lincoln Avenue.

The teacher suffered cuts to his face but did not seek medical attention, according to police. The student was not injured.

The school's assistant principal was in the process of obtaining video from the campus surveillance system this morning for investigators to review, police Cmdr. Sheldon Bryan said.
