Boy born without arms joins band as trumpeter

NEW JERSEY

Jahmir Wallace, 10, joined his school band as a trumpet player this year and that's pretty remarkable considering he was born without arms.

Jahmir says his sister plays the piano, so he thought he should try an instrument. He picked the trumpet and says it just felt right. A local music store helped make a special stand to hold the horn.

He encourages others to give music a chance. "Anybody out there that would like to try an instrument, go ahead and try it. You never know. If you like it, you like it. If you don't, you don't. Keep on trying," he said.

Everyone who knows Jahmir says he wants to be treated like every other student, but Jahmir knows what it took to give him this opportunity and he's vowing to do his best.
