Federal law enforcement officials are putting out an alert in the Bay Area for a violent fugitive spotted here last week.

The FBI and U.S. Marshals say Kevin Anthony Briggs, a convicted sex offender, attacked a police officer in Montana and went on the run.

Briggs was spotted last week in San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland. He stands between 5 feet five inches and 5'7" inches, weighs 120-150 pounds. Investigators say Briggs may be working in the area.

"Kevin Briggs has worked in hotels before, he's worked in landscaping, so he could be working for money to be travelling to Mexico, Oregon, Washington state..." said FBI spokesman Peter Lee.

Police say if you see him, don't try to catch him. Call 911 and report it.
