Five real-life Rosie the Riveters will soon be on their way to Washington DC to meet Vice President Joe Biden.
All five of the Bay Area women are on fixed incomes, but a fundraising drive sponsored by the Rosie the Riveter Trust in Richmond came through.
Kaiser Permanente and Virgin America are among the benefactors.
Biden said that the "Rosies," as they're called, are members of a remarkable generation of women.
The Rosies are cultural icons, representing the women who worked in factories during World War II, often in place of men who were serving in the military.
The women fly to DC on March 29.
