Santa Cruz police say reported shooting proved false

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Errett Circle this afternoon and a nearby school was put on lockdown until officers secured the area, police said.

Residents of the area of Errett Circle were urged to shelter in place, police said.

Once police had secured the area, they determined that there was no threat and the reports of a shooter in the area were false, police said.

The person who made the report was arrested for being under the influence of drugs and making a false report of an emergency, police said.
