Wall of Oakland Victorian undergoing renovation collapses

OAKLAND, Calif.

Firefighters were called to the home at 2432 Myrtle St. at 8:35 p.m. after a side wall began to fall toward an adjacent property, according to Battalion Chief Coy Justice.

The house was unoccupied during renovations, which appear to have involved an attempt to preserve the historic façade of the building, Justice said.

No one was injured during the incident, and while a truck on the neighboring property is covered with debris, residents there are able to remain safely in their home, Justice said.

The area has been roped off for safety and a building official has been called to the scene to evaluate the damage, Justice said.
