Police search for clues in fatal Concord hit-and-run

CONCORD, Calif.

Police are looking at surveillance video from a convenience store nearby, hoping it can help them hunt down and identify the driver who hit the victim and kept on going.

The video shows the Concord woman, minutes before she is hit on Willow Pass Road.

"Saying that the Concord PD wanted to see the surveillance tape and they just had me give them the log-in information. I'm not sure what they found off of it or if anything at all," said Gurpreet Sangha of S&S Fast & Easy Mart.

"The victim was struck and killed by a vehicle, that vehicle fled the scene. We have witnesses, but the description of the suspect vehicle is vague at this time," said Sgt. Cody Harrison of the Concord Police Department.

Police have identified the victim but are not sharing her name, pending notification of her family. They say she was hit while walking westbound on the sidewalk.

The vehicle that struck her, believed to be a pick-up truck, was driving eastbound. Police say it is possible the victim saw the driver barreling down on her and simply could not move fast enough to avoid being hit.

Police say the driver may have been impaired by sleep, drugs or alcohol.

"There's evidence out there and we're trying to recover that so we can hopefully, eventually arrest someone," said Harrison.

Authorities are looking for a white Chevy pick-up truck with stripe down the side and may be two-tone in color.
