Richmond police investigate first murder of the year

RICHMOND, Calif.

According to Sgt. Nicole Abetkov, police received reports of gunfire at South Fourth Street and Florida Avenue from callers and the city's ShotSpotter system at 9:57 p.m. Thursday.

The victim, a woman in her late 30s to early 40s, was found shot multiple times in her torso. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not yet been released.

Sgt. Abetkov says a burgundy sedan with gold rims was seen leaving the area after the shooting and that police are looking for the driver of that car

According to officials, the woman is not believed to have any gang connections and the motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Anyone with information is asked to call Richmond police.
