Eulogio Rodriguez from Whittier, Calif. won the men's marathon in just over 2.5 hours. The 30-year-old came in more than 10 minutes ahead of his nearest rival.
It's the first time Rodriguez has taken part in the Oakland marathon and he says it was challenging.
"But you know, once I got going I had to commit and just keep following through," he said. "So it ended up being a lot tougher than I though it would."
Runners also took part in relay races, a half marathon, and a 10K.
Officials estimate the event brought $4 million into the city and raised up to $400,000 for local charities.
Traffic had to be routed around the course with street closures until early Sunday afternoon.
