Only a few lucky customers were able to get carts while shopping on Friday. One clerk told ABC7 News 70 were stolen this week.
A Safeway spokesperson would not confirm the exact number, though did say some carts were taken. Shoppers tell say it is disturbing news for the neighborhood.
"I would hate to say that kind of crime in this neighborhood, because that means they'll do the same thing with bicycles or cars or break into cars, or whatever," said shopper John Bronson.
Safeway has ordered replacement carts.
