SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A San Francisco couple in a registered domestic relationship received an unwelcome surprise when filling out their taxes this year. What they learned is relevant to many Californians.

Many taxpayers have come to rely on software programs as an easy, convenient way to do taxes. But one couple found out such programs aren't intended for everyone.
