7 On Your Side helps man get refund after tuxedo company went bankrupt
After Selix Formalwear went bankrupt in February, it left thousands of people with nowhere to go to get dressed up. But there is good news if you never got your tuxedo.

SAN CARLOS, Calif. (KGO) -- When the Selix Formalwear stores went bankrupt in February, it left thousands of people with nowhere to go to get all dressed up. But there is good news if you never got your tuxedo.

The bankruptcy is still having ripple effects. A couple in San Carlos were about to get married and the groom thought he had his tuxedo all lined up.

Then he saw 7 On Your Side's report about the surprising shutdown of all six Selix stores.

Christine and Ray are excited about their upcoming wedding in a spectacular setting on a pier that's 1,000 feet out over Lake Tahoe.

They prepared months ahead of time. Christine ordered a gown and Ray was fitted with a tuxedo.

"So that he can feel just as special as I feel with my dress," Christine said.

Now, with the wedding just days away, the couple found out Ray doesn't have a tuxedo after all. "I called and got the 'This number has been disconnected' message and thought, 'That's odd,'" she said.

Ray had ordered his tuxedo from the century-old Selix Formalwear shop in Palo Alto. "So then I Google it and bankruptcy, oh no," Christine recalled.

She found 7 On Your Side's report online about the six Bay Area Selix stores going bankrupt.

"I texted Ray right away," she said.

"The first thing I said was, "No way, there's no way they could've closed," Ray said.

Now they had to scramble for another tuxedo. "It's gonna work out but it's a different experience," he said.

Not only that, they had placed a $100 deposit on the tux at Selix. "That's why I contacted you guys, hoping that there was more information," she said.

7 On Your Side discovered Selix customers who left deposits can now claim that money back. "There's a deposit out there with my name on it and if it works out that there's money left over," said Christine, shrugging.

Christine and Ray have now submitted their claim. Ray found a new tux in time.

The bankruptcy trustee says customers have a very good chance of getting deposits back. You must file a claim before December 11 and attack proof of payment.
