DETROIT (KGO) -- Civil rights activists are turning up the heat on San Francisco based Twitter to publicly release the gender and ethnic breakdown of its workers.

USA Today reports that Reverend Jesse Jackson's Rainbow PUSH Coalition plans to ask people to "tweet out" to Twitter at a political convention in Detroit Friday.

ColorofChange.org is also asking its one million members to sign an online petition to add their voices to the campaign.

Other tech giants including Google are working to bring more diversity to its ranks after revealing its employees are overwhelmingly white and male.
