UC Berkeley students return for start of school year
It's a day of new beginnings and long goodbyes at UC Berkeley as students move into the dorms and campus housing for the start of the new school year.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- It's a day of new beginnings and long goodbyes at UC Berkeley.

This weekend students are moving into the dorms and campus housing for the start of the new school year.

Incoming freshman Sebastian Miller from Santa Rosa is moving into Davidson Hall near campus. He says everything he'll need for college is in his big orange bin.

Over 7,000 students are moving into campus housing this weekend.

It should be a bit chaotic, but so far everyone seems to know where they're going thanks in part to campus housing advisors, who are stationed near the dorms to answer questions.

Miller's mom, who is helping with the move, says she is a bit sad, but her son is looking forward to the new adventure.

"It's exciting. The adrenaline is unmatched. I'm looking forward to a year at Cal," said Miller.

"This is why you have kids, to see them launch. It's emotional as well," said Miller's mom Hillary.

UC Berkeley police want to welcome new students, but they are reminding all students that drinking in the dorms will not be tolerated.

Classes start on August 26.
