SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- An ABC film crew is re-enacting the famous White Night Riot outside City Hall Friday night as part of an upcoming miniseries called "When We Rise."

In 1979, protesters reacted to the Dan White trial manslaughter verdict. White killed Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk in 1978.

One of the real life characters depicted said the scene unfolding at City Hall was one of the most violent episodes in the history of the LGBT movement. He said they're hoping to re-create that intensity Friday night. Watch the video above for Melanie Woodrow's full report.
