BOSTON -- Bill Cosby has resigned from the Temple University Board of Trustees.

Cosby released the following statement Monday afternoon:

"I have always been proud of my association with Temple University. I have always wanted to do what would be in the best interests of the university and its students. As a result, I have tendered my resignation from the Temple University Board of Trustees."

In response, Temple University released this statement, "The Board of Trustees accepts Dr. Cosby's resignation from the board and thanks him for his service to the university."

The comedian resigns amid allegations from women who say he sexually assaulted them.

Cosby has denied these allegations. His lawyer says they are "unsubstantiated" and "discredited."

According to Temple University's website, "The Board of Trustees comprises 36 voting members, 24 of whom are elected and 12 of whom are appointed by officials of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania."
