'Django Unchained' actress Daniele Watts accosted by LAPD after being mistaken for prostitute

'Django Unchained' actress Daniele Watts was handcuffed Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 in Studio City after she claims she was accosted by LAPD officers who mistook her for a prostitute.

"Django Unchained" actress Daniele Watts claims she was accosted by LAPD officers who mistook her for a prostitute.

Watts says she was handcuffed Thursday in Studio City. Officers said they detained Watts and her companion after a citizen called and reported that two people were "involved in indecent exposure" in a silver Mercedes.

The actress was released after police determined no crime was committed.

Watts said she was guilty only of showing affection in public, according to a post on her Facebook page. The actress, who had apparently refused to show identification to officers, posted a picture of herself sobbing next to an LAPD officer.

Her male companion wrote on Facebook that because she is black and he is white, onlookers assumed them to be a prostitute and a client.

An internal investigation has been launched by the LAPD.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
